I have a special interest here as I did suggest an occasional pose to Ged at Gringos40 (please remember that two-three months ago I was 100% Napoleonics) New releases nicely painted up. If the door comes with it that is a Godsend for folk like me! More to come, apparently, painted just as well.

Nice! Those are vets. It's tough doing shading and fading at the same time. You have pulled it off. Does that last guy have a Thompson SMG? I know that there were some M3 Grease Guns there because they came with some armored vehicles. Their shortness made them easier to maneuver inside a tank. Well done bases, too. |

I will post some more pics of painted figures. I was going to hang on because I know there are more to come (I seriously have no idea what though) but I have to have these right now. How does a guy with shotgun get through a door? No, he does not blow off the lock. He blows off the hinges top and bottom. But that only works from the inside, where he can see the hinges… But I have seen that blue door and the Marine and am determined to find it on-line. Nearest I could get to it is; link |

Oh let me stress…this is not my work. I wish! These are Ged's photos of his new figures professionally painted. I suspect you can tell that and they area tutorial in how to do it. That surely is a Thompson SMG. I am sure there must be evidence for them still used in 1968, as Ged seems to have studied Tet exhaustively. link
My order went in tonight with some repeats of earlier figures that inspire my obsession with conversion work. |

in fact if you want a Thompson;

Fantastic little scene! It's a diorama just waiting to be made. |

So glad you reminded me….Ged sent me few more of the new releases now painted up. Firing over the wall was my special request. There is another kneeling LAW figure…I think the only difference is the weapons slung;

Notice how the Thompson was still much used by ARVN, but they removed the stock to lose weight. Cannot imagine what that did to fire control though. Certainly used by US Marines 1968 too, when they could get hold of one, as with the RTO above. There is even the famous photo of the chap with AK47/Type56 in the Citadel Snag for me is, just when I wanted to start the Dong Ba Tower, I am distracted by these new releases, a suggestion of more to come and "another priority" this afternoon. Tango often says "Glup" not "Gulp", I am not sure I will feel much like doing so tonight!

I believe I have early photos of the ARVN using BARs, M1 Carbines, etc. As well as the 'yards using those too … |

Poor little guys were given all the heaviest and oldest equipment early on. |
Legion 4 | 21 Nov 2019 7:35 a.m. PST |
Well early on they were primarily dealing with the NLF/VC. Who in many cases were using older French weapons as well some USSR/PRC, etc., equipment at that time. Yes, some of the weapons from the West may have been a little heavy to carry with some of the denizens of SE Asia. But it was a case of using what you have to get the job done. Anyway, it would "toughen" them up ! |

Unless they sold them to Charlie en masse. My Marine Assault Team arrived today and a great feature I had not appreciated is that some come with separate arms to fit into shirtsleeve order rig. Massive potential for conversion then, without sawing and trying to insert a pin (I have never ever yet managed to do that…well in anything smaller than a Cave Troll). I did also swallow my principles and get a few NVA from Gringos40. To my pleasant surprise they are much smaller figures than the Marines and much skinnier. They look absolutely right then. I had worried that some looked more like prize fighters and said so here. OK, I will take that back now. Really sensibly sized and great detail…but still NVA illegitimi That chap with the Thompson in the photo did know how strike a "cool" pose. Fag drooping (cigarette to our transatlantic cuzzins lest you think I meant….no forget it). Low angle shot. Gazing at the horizon. Looks like a cover illustration for Signal, except he is a goodie. |

Liam glad you like the figures and the NVA they are indeed marginally trimmer but not so to look out of place next to the Marines..it was a difficult balancing act to get this right and again the lady VC is slightly trimmer still to get the correct "look"… cheers Ged gringo40s.com gringo40s.blogspot.com |

Exactly. They should be skinnier and shorter than America's Finest and they are after all. I really do like the NVA models, they do indeed look right and I may even get some more. Not sure I want a diorama of them, unless it was of them slaughtering helpless civilians. For wargamers they are quite superb and just as detailed as the Marines. |
