The USA VITP gaming group held its largest tournament at MillenniumCon this year. The Lone Star Historical Miniatures (LSHM) club annual war-gaming convention in Austin Texas 7-10 November:

Here is a report from the tournament organizer Mr. Daniel Blumentritt

Congratulations to John Sharp Jr for winning his 3rd consecutive Millennium Con Victory in the Pacific tournament.

We had 13 players show up for at least one round and 19 unique games played, both of which set new highs. 6 of the 13 were first-timers to Millennium Con. 3 of those 6 were either brand-new VITP players or relative newbies who had never tried it out competitively before.

Our players hailed from 4 different states and 7 different metro areas (Austin TX, Houston TX, Dallas-Fort Worth TX, San Antonio TX, New Orleans LA, Sarasota FL, and Grand Blanc, MI).

John Pack of Gameaholics showed up both to play in the tournament and demo the upcoming reprint, which got a fair amount of attention with the larger board, rich colors, and plastic ship minis.

After 4 rounds we had John Sharp Jr, John Pack, and David Gubbay all 3-1. Head to head criteria didn't settle it and so it went down to strength of schedule, where Sharp edged Gubbay on the second decimal point!

I have played this game a couple of times. Can the Japanese actually win it? They'd have to succeed early on before the industrial might of the allies makes victory an impossibility.

Alan Applebaum taught me ViTP. Needless to say, I never came close to winning.

Great coverage, thanks. And a super game. Have had it for ages but never mastered it. Very interested in the reprint.

We played this a lot back in my university days, and yes the Haoanese can win

Not only can the Japanese win the game was considered unbalanced in their favor for a long time.
