"Turkey operates the second-largest submarine fleet in NATO. Currently all of them are imported designs, but that is set to change. The program to build the first indigenous submarine has been formally launched. Known as MiLDEN (Milli Denizaltı), six of the new boats should join the fleet in the 2030s. The move comes at a time many defense deals with Turkey are under the spotlight, with the U.S. cancelling sales of F-35 fighter jets to the country and taking away its production role in the program over Turkey's decision to acquire Russian S-400 air-defense missiles. Turkey also has ambitions to be more self-sufficient in defense, building indigenous frigates and main battle tanks. It even has a railgun project…." Main page link Amicalement Armand |

Turkey has the second largest submarine fleet in NATO? I had to check. Turkey has twelve, France ten, Britain seven, Germany six, wow. The article strangely assumes that if you have nuclear missiles and submarines that you can put your nuclear missiles on your submarines, but I think there are a couple extra steps there. Still, weird. But Turkey is doing a lot of weird things now. |

Actually Britain has 11: 7 SSNs and 4 SSBNs. I'm not very convinced that a simple head count (conning tower count?) makes much sense for comparing submarine fleets – is a 1800 ton SSK/AIP Type 212 really the same as one of the UK or French SSNs or SSBNs? They look like very different fleets with very different objectives to me. |

They will struggle to build anything due to their economy tanking and having their fiscal policy set by cronyism. |

Let's hope they install screen doors and sink the lot in drydock. |
