Hi. I am trying to figure out how to base 6mm artillery for use with Volley & Bayonet. All of the photos I have seen on-line show only one gun or two per base and fill out the rest of the base with crew spread out in depth, rather than use a half deep stand. Most of the photos I have seen seem to be only half the width of the infantry and cavalry stands, with only one gun on it. What do you do? |

Artillery stands are 1.5 inches wide, while infantry and cavalry stands are 3 inches wide. I don't game in 6mm, but I would try it with 1 and 2 cannons per base, and go with what I though looked best. I'd probably put a caisson on there as well. |

Agree with 79th PA. Half the width but full depth is what the rules call for. But I usually put the caissons on another stand, which gives me a little flexibility. In other rules, where limbered/unlimbered is a factor, I can use the limbers to indicate the status of the guns. (Also it looks better.) |

I have put the guns and limbers on the same stand. As the limbers and horses are all one piece, I remove them when the guns are unlimbered. There is a slot for them on the stand and when removed, a sticker at the bottom is revealed that says 'unlimbered' [for the uninitated…] I have pictures somewhere… |

I can send you some pictures if you'd like. They are on my computer and I don't know how to load them onto TMP…just pictures already on the internet. |

Base depth is not critical, many of us have used half depth deployed artillery stands. In 6mm I'd definitely have two guns across the 1.5-inch base. So you have a couple of options, full depth bases with the extra depth used for limbers and other impedimenta or half depth deployed bases with either another half depth base with limbers etc, or a replacement limbered base with limbered guns and caissons. Cheers David |

Thanks guys. Because I am looking at using 3D-printed 6mm figures, which come with stands attached, and the artillery stands are about 3/4" wide, I will go with two guns and crew wide. Since even 1.5" is pretty deep for 6mm, I will go with the front 1.5" for the guns and back 1.5" for the limbers and horses and the back part not connected. Unlimbered? Turn the 1.5" square stands so that the line of horses and limbers run sideways. Limbered? Rotate the stands and line up the line of horses and limber with the each gun. |
