Opinions please.
I will be gaming primarily solo. I have Fistful of Lead, Pulp Alley and FNG 2nd tour. While I love the fluff, I am not really a big fan of the THW system. Any other rules out there that are good for solo gaming? I am aiming at single squad level, very much a skirmish game.

Nick,

Years back, on the Vietgaming Yahoo group, or perhaps the one for Charlie Company, someone posted in the files a VC solo actions rules addendum which could be used in conjunction with any other rule set. It was only two pages and worked. It might be found elsewhere on the net.

Another thought, I have recently played a few Combat Patrol games and that system too would work well for solo actions.
It would take some mods, since there to my knowledge there is no Vietnam variant.

hope you can find something. As to FNG, from looking at it, the new version FNG tour of duty which can double as a board game seems to be very streamlined from the old FNG2T. Just not sure if you are looking to use many vehicles.

Your figs in that earlier post looked great.

Sam, thanks. Yes, the FNG 2nd tour is very different from the latest version. I am going to try and use it.

The old "Recon" rules by Palladium are worth considering. They are for a RPG system, but if you want to do squad level patrols, that's the ticket.

You can opt out of much of the RPG detail if you like.

The beauty of this system is all of the encounter tables provided. Some use D10s, others D10s of Percentile Dice (2 x D10s added together for D100 results).

There are tables for encounters out on the trail, in villages, for dangerous animals when out in the jungle (watch out for hungry tigers and wild boars), and tunnels.

Those alone make the rules worth considering, if you can find a copy for a reasonable price. Lots and lots of other great stuff in it too.

Get the Deluxe Edition.

Use the original Ambush Alley rules, they have a good solo mechanism, you just need to make a few minor adjustments for 'Nam and you are good to go.

I hav never tried it because I am not a Vietnam War gamer, but I always thought Colonial Adventures would work really well.

Nick,

I just checked and the VC Solo Actions is a word file still available on the Charlie Company Yahoo Group. It is a word pdf and you can still download it now. It is in the file section and you can still access it. If you are not a member, hopefully you have a friend or someone here on TMP who is a member and they can download and email it to you. I would try, but my computer skills are below "lacking". Hope you can get a copy of those to use with your favorite skirmish rules.
