Just got some FK 15s, horse and rider separate castings, who'd a thunk it? Good and bad, the good, the castings are really clean, the bad, the castings are really clean. No sprue to hang onto while painting the riders. Do I just give up and reconcile myself to repainting the boots twice before mounting or is there something to mount them on that will hold them during painting. I was thinking of drilling a small hole in their…uh…bottoms…and sticking a toothpick up there to hold them, hence the title of this post. Any better ideas. |

I am forever drilling holes up the bums of cavalry riders and my wife is always aghast about it. |

Your mentioned idea seems to me the best one I've ecountered so far. Impaling the riders that way won't make you to a Rumanian Vlad … |

There are only about three options: Glue them to the horses, this does require more care when painting the horses. Stick something up them for a handle (ouch), I've recently done this for some Sipahi. mount them on some dowel as a painting stick, either individually or several per stick. Cheers David |

Take a tongue depressor or Popsicle stick, glue them to the thin side edge. You can get a number of riders on each one. |

I drill holes and put them on bamboo skewers (from the dollar store).Seems to work pretty well. |

I'd go with straddling a bamboo skewer, but I wouldn't drill holes--and didn't back when I did 15mm. Run a thin bead of while glue down the skewer and glue about 12 riders to it. Then prime and paint. What you can't reach will be covered by the horse. |

I always glue the rider to the horse before painting. |

I've seen a friend use a piece of 90 degree corner molding & glue on with white glue the riders. It worked for him with true 25s should work with 15s using a thinner stock. The advantage is the stick stands on it's own. |

I very rarely glue riders to horses or put them on anything else before mounting and don't have an issue with paint rubbing off. If you get a problem and don't want to put them on the horses, paint everything except the boots and then do those when you have put them on the horses. |

Wow, is this where that post ended up? I thought I was posting it to the Painting Boards!! Couldn't find the darn thing for a couple days. I though Bill was paying me back for some impolitic comments. (smile) Of course, pretty much all of my comments are impolitic! |

Thank you all, some really good ideas. It just occurred to me, if I impale them on bamboo skewers or whatever, I could then stick the other end into a Styrofoam block to keep them clean! |
