I'm currently playing the Chain of Command WWII campaign Taking The Gembloux Gap and one scenario calls for the French to demolish two road culverts to stall the German advance. As culverts also feature in a number of other scenarios I wanted to make some for my terrain. I wanted something fairly versatile and came up with the idea of doing them as 'bookends'. Here are some pictures and there is a little bit more about how I constructed them here Making Culverts

Nice effect. They do look like the two ends. Do you have something to go in the middle of the road after the culvert is blown? Make it look like the road has collapsed? |

great work. Prior thinking can obviate tens of hours of useless tinkering work. |

If it's blown in the course of play then I intend to keep it simple and use a plume of smoke. I haven't really given any thought to if it's been blown earlier but first thoughts are a shell crater would probably be sufficient. |

Really clever and simple. |

That's brilliantly simple! Consider that idea 'borrowed'. |

Agree, so simple it's brilliant. |

Could you drill a hole in the center of the road with a door knob hole cutter (save the center), make a crater underneath and use the center to plug the hole before it is blown? |

Could you drill a hole in the center of the road with a door knob hole cutter (save the center), make a crater underneath and use the center to plug the hole before it is blown? That would defeat the idea of making the culverts as ‘bookends' which allows you to place them anywhere along existing roads. Your idea would require a dedicated stretch of road for the culvert (in which case your idea would certainly work, but it alters the ‘bookend' concept). |
