Just a general question about particular product codes in Perry's AWI ranges. I very much like Perry's metal "Southern Militia" packs. But I was wondering if these could also be used as just generic northern colonies militia as well. It seems to me that Perry's southerners are wearing fairly generic types of slouch hats and appear to be in just shirt sleeves, etc. Would like to incorporate some of these into my army and wanted as much info. as possible. Thanks in advance. |

I think they are intended for the warmer climate of the South. A couple at least are barefoot, and as you say they are in shirtsleeves. Great figures regardless. |

I'm using Perry's southern militia and I can't think of anything that makes them specifically southern except that they don't have coats and some have bare skin below the breeches. I don't think I'd use them for an invasion of Canada scenario but other than that I think you could mix them in. |

I just use them as militia. They look fine. |

Northern militia in the summer? |

You can't judge conditions by the location. Monmouth took place on a warm June day in Pennsylvania, Guilford Courthouse was fought in miserable conditions in North Carolina – in March. In these cases, the clothing would probably be reversed, light for the northern battle and heavy for the southern. |

Great advice all around, and +1 Delbruck! Sometimes it's cold in the South or warm in the North. That's the case for my own favorite AWI action, the Battle of Brooklyn (aka Battle of Long Island), fought in the northern state/colony of New York in late August, 1776. If your own AWI games won't be set in winter terrain, I say use those great looking figures. |

The militia uniforms would be largely dependent on the time of year and weather…there is no significant distinction between northern or southern dress. A small correction, the weather for Guilford Courthouse was not that bad for March in North Carolina…cold at night but warming up into the upper 40's or low 50's during the day. |
