"The borderlands between Iran and Iraq have never made any sense. Rather than defining any real ethnic homeland, the border merely marks where two expanding imperial dynasties -- the Ottomans and Persians -- ran into each other in the Sixteenth Century. The final treaty signed some two centuries later split Kurds, Shiites and Arabs between two alien overlords along a vague line drawn somewhere in the wild mountains. Even the break-up of the Ottoman Empire after World War One didn't improve matters much, as the non-Turkish provinces were turned over to the British and French as mandates under the League of Nations rather than formed into logical nation-states…."

The division of the Ottoman Turk empire after WWI was pretty much done to serve the wishes of now long dead European political leaders, etc.

Regardless, the tribes, religions, ethnicities, etc., have been fighting among themselves for a very, very, long time and continue to do so. And will in the future. As in A'stan as well.

I really think there is not much more the West[the "Crusaders"] can do. Save for keep observing with orbital assets, drones, Humint, etc. To insure the jihadis keep their slaughter local among themselves.

And to reinforce that. We see the 1000s of ISIS families, i.e. wives, women and children of the ISIS fighters. That are in camps mostly guarded by one or more of the factions of the Kurds, SDF, etc. These family camps are flying the ISIS flag and running their own little Caliphates based on ISIS laws and dogma. With no ISIS males being present. As they are being held in their own camps, hopefully awaiting trial and justice. Albeit Europe [The World Court] does not have the death penalty, AFAIK. And those found guilty will continue to be a burden, if nothing else but economically.

In the family camps the killing those of all ages of their own that they deem have violated those ISIS laws and beliefs, etc.,. Along with teaching their children that the ISIS radical, fanatical, fundamentalists beliefs is "right" and "correct". And everyone who does not belief like they do are Infidels[that is most of us and many others]. And Infidels should be killed in the name of their religious beliefs, etc.

It appears there is no one that belongs to ISIS is "innocent" including their women and children. The next generations of ISIS jihadis are being grown/groomed right now in those camps. To continue the ISIS reign of terror/campaign worldwide if they can.

With that as far as I am concerned it seems there is no solution. Save for keeping them in camps … forever …
