I'm looking for a bunch of info on putting together a good Carentan campaign for skirmish level (CoC, etc) I've located the following scenarios, but looking for any other suggestions - link I am using 28mm Perry and Offensive Miniatures figs, plus Blitzkrieg vehicles. Anyone have a suggestion on a range to use to fill out guns/etc for 6th FJR, SS PzG Div, and the 101st AB? Thoughts on good vehicle selection for 17th SS and the FJRs? I've found multiple building options such as those below, but am interested in other ideas - link |

I'd recommend the Skirmish Campaigns book. They are extremely well researched. The number of men and vehicles for each side is just right for COC. Each map board is typically 4'x4' or 4'x6' Very detailed Order of Battle. That particular book, Normandy '44 – First Hours has following Para battles: Brecourt Manor, Attack on St. Marie, Howell Force, Advance to Le Fiere, Counter-Attack at Cauquigny and German tank attack at Le Fiere Bridge. Did not see any Carentan specific scenarios………you could check one of the I Aint Been Shot, Mum scenario books…. |

Yes, saw the Carentan book and ordering it along with the Skirmish Campaign book. I have Aint Been Shot, so will check that as well. Thoughts on models for guns? Also need a StuG IV, as I understand that 17th SS had that version engaged. Blitzkrieg does not have one. Die Waffenkammer has one. Also thoughts on appropriate US vehicles for use with 4th Armored Division, which I think arrived? I'm assuming the SK book will have a lot of this though. |

Wargames Vault has a campaign called Rendezvous with Destiny about the fighting around Carentan. It's designed for Chain of Command so 5 of the 6 scenarios include no AFV's. The bonus scenario gives the US a platoon of Shermans. The Germans get 2 STuG III and a Marder III, both from the 17th SS. For $6 USD, maybe worth rolling the dice (so to speak). And, no, I'm not a ship for the Lardies' |

17thss had 40+ stugs and a dozen marders. maybe a few 251s but i believe they were mostly truck borne. they were a panzergenadier division i believe based on the 1944 orbat. they had more troops than the OOB but only 50% of the officers. fallschirmjager had a few schwimmwaggens but most of their vehicles were ditched early on after dday. they had 3 battalions. what you see defending carentan was what was left of a battalion. only 13 men would survive unscathed out of the 800 by the 13th of june. thats 98% loss ratio in 7days. i did a lot of research many years ago on the battle for bloody gulch. theres even period footage of the battle on youtube. the american paras had a few stuarts, a few 6pdr at guns and would be relieved by shemans and would have fire support maybe even direct from m7 priests. |

link marder III with 76.2 (russian guns) Some seem to think they only had 1 (or very few 251) the videos above have the division or regimental commander? riding in a 251. The recon battalion seems to have been elsewhere. so they didnt have a significant force in 251 halftracks. it looks like m44 is common. |
