"In April 1940, the Spanish cavalry consisted of 15 regiments, ten of which were mixed cavalry regiments for each of the Army Corps and only five belonged to the only cavalry division that the Army had. The Cavalry Division of the General Reserve was based in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) and had two brigades: Cavalry Brigade number 1 (Alcalá): composed of Regiment number 1 (Alcalá) and Regiment number 2 (Alcalá). Cavalry Brigade number 2 (Aranjuez) composed of Regiment number 3 (Aranjuez) and Regiment number 4 (Badajoz). Three regiments were sabers and two were mechanized. The Saber Regiments, that is to say on horseback, for the cavalry division, were constituted by a Major Plana: Command Plane and a Command Group, two groups of three saber squads and a mixed squad, which had two sections of 20mm anti-aircraft guns, two 45mm anti-tank gun sections and an 81mm mortar section. In total each regiment, commanded by a colonel, was composed of 50 chiefs and officers, 43 noncommissioned officers, 17 CASE and 888 troop soldiers…."
