"The latest new epic show to arrive to us this Autumn and the one that will have the honour and a tough task to launch Apple's new streaming service on Friday SEE starts its ten episodes November 1st with the story that takes place 600 years after a deadly virus decimated humanity and left the few survivors (and their descendants) blind. When two children are born with sight, their adoptive father, Baba Voss (Jason Momoa) must protect the twins and his tribe from those who want to destroy them, including the powerful and desperate Queen Kane (Sylvia Hoeks). The producers had talks with blind consultants and evolutionary biologists and survivalists in order to depict this apocalyptic world. The actors had movement coaches to teach them how to move as if they were blind. With Jason Momoa as the Chief of the Alkenny tribe the rest of the cast…"

I'll watch at least 2x episodes of this … but I'm not really sold on the blindness thing, TBH

Sounds like a made up conflict. Surely, sighted children would be an incredible asset to the Queen after 600 years of worldwide blindness.

Consider that there may be mystical/religious/traditional reasons not to want sighted kids running around.
1. Sighted folks caused the apocalyptic meltdown, so we don't want them running around doing it again.
2. Sighted folks are really demons, come to cause havoc. Best to kill them now before they get too powerful.
3. Like most technological advances, it changes the status quo, and if you're the queen you want to keep the quo status'd.
4. For a practical reason, it gives the other tribe an advantage. But would they know that? How do you describe color to a blind person?

I'm just not sold on the idea that a totally blind society could exist. Too easy to walk off a cliff/bridge, would have to spend too much time gathering/farming, ranged weapons for hunting are probably right out.

I'll probably still give it a watch, though.

Blindness is one of two the catastrophes presented by Day of the Triffids (the other being the triffids).
