OK! Our last polls on rules and figures established that a lot of us still bring out the figures and play the rules we started with. But I'm still curious about relative longevity. SO: 1. How often--or do you ever--replace figures? Because they're an obsolete or ugly sculpt, or because you want to play in a different scale, for instance? 2. How often do you replace regularly-used commercial rules? Or does the franchise insist that they be replaced? (N.B. rules taken from a book or magazine are not commercial in this sense.) I'm still holding to my initial conclusion: we buy figures, but we rent commercial rules. |

Good question – but has to say it depends for me Rarely have I replaced a figure – usually only if they break at the ankles or otherwise have a failure – more likely I add a new unit For some rules I have stuck to them for 30 plus years – for others I am still looking for the one that feels right and fits my gaming time |

Replace figures? I would say never is too often Replace rules? Every now and then and usually because the group has moved to a new rule set |

1. Never. 2. Rarely, once I find a set I like. I may modify them, but I'll only change if something I like better comes along. |

1. I can't ever remember "replacing" figures, although I'll often add to an existing army or collection with newer or different figures. 2. I do have multiple editions of the DBM, DBR, and WRG Renaissance rules-- I have no idea why. While I'm willing to try a new set of rules, I'll probably start a new army if they prove interesting rather than abandon established collections. |

1. If I have figures that get long faces from being lonely, I will sell them, but not replace them. If I replaced the lonely old figures, the new ones would be just as lonely. Or sometimes, I become motivated to get them back on the table. 2. I occasionally try new rules, but I have ones I like, so I don't stop playing them. Almost never. |

I'm too busy starting new periods and projects to replace existing painted figures with new ones. Until recently rules have changed frequently. Few have been returned to but mostly because players have changed. |

Replace figures? Never New rule sets? Continual search for satisfaction. (And I try, and I try and I try try try try try!) |

To be honest until the advent of 3D printed stuff which seems to be far tougher, keep paint batter and less damage prone than metal than metal or the older plastics A metal army lasted a couple of years hard play by which time paning and material damage was sufficient it was faster to replace the entire lot. Plastics like Airfix again easier to paint new than touch up. Rules Forgotten really, been playing our own since 2008 and the occasional DBM V2 I think. Bodely Scott contaminated later ones so they were were any good except for competitions and they did nothing for me. |

1. Too often, but mainly because I get bored with them. Now I'm narrowing my interests down to three or four periods it's less likely to happen. 2. I've got rules for everything I'm interested in now, so don't need to look anymore. |

1. Rarely. It has happened, but not very often, and I've been doing mini's gaming since 1992! 2. I play what I like -- non-tournament. I am not dependent upon anyone for "new", or, "improved", rules. If I enjoy them, they stay, until I die. Cheers! |

Years ago I played lots of HOTT and DBA, and used them until the covers fell off. Even then I'd probably staple them back together. As to minis, it was rare indeed to see me throw one out. |
