Which battle/battles from this century are your favorite? If anybody is interested to know for me it's Breitenfeld 1631, Lützen, Marston Moor, Naseby, and Vienna 1683. |

Naseby. Mostly because of Streeter's (and Sturt's copy) plan of the battle. I have been lucky enough to pick up an original C17th print of Sturt's version. |

Cropredy Bridge, because of its nature as a sort of meeting engagement rather than the typical ECW battle where both sides formed up into lines and then went at each other. |

Irish Marine: Three Day Battle of Warsaw was fought in 1656 between Poland and Sweden, and its ally Brandenburg. It does, in fact, have a little bit of everything, including a charge of hussars. |

I think as a campaign that the war of sweden against poland 1654 to 1660 is very adaptable to wargaming. |

I always liked the battles between Sir William Waller and Sir Ralph Hopton in SW England during the ECW. Lansdown, Roundway Down etc. I like the interaction between the antagonists who were friends. As in Waller's letter: 'That great God who is the searcher of my heart knows with what a sad sense I go upon this service, and with what a perfect hatred I detest this war without an enemy; but I look upon it as sent from God . . . God in his good time send us the blessing of peace and in the meantime assist us to receive it! We are both upon the stage and must act such parts as are assigned us in this tragedy, let us do it in a way of honour and without personal animosities.' |

I'm always fascinated by Montrose and his ability to wield a bunch of, what was in effect, irregular levies from the clans and Irish regulars into an impressive fighting force. So for me The battle of Inverlochy 1645. Although the pre battle manoeuvres of marching 1500 men, 30 miles, across mountainous terrain, in the middle of a Scottish winter, in 36 hours to surprise his enemy is probably the most impressive part of the battle. |

Ones I've played Lansdown, Cropredy Bridge and I Newbury come to mind, ones I mean to are Marston Moor and Edgehill. One day maybe Worcester but it's not very winnable by the Scots Royalists. |

A great selection here – and there are so many interesting battles. I probably have to agree with Prince Rupert on Inverlochy – it has the most hot highlander action in both armies ;-) . |
