I used to watch this corny show when I was a kid. Always liked this space fighter's catamaran design. Why is it that sci-fi space fighters of the '80's are always in white with red as the off color (e.g. X-Wing, Viper)?

From what I understand, anything blue caused problems with the blue screen technology of the day.

That's why Luke was Red Five instead of the planned 'Blue Five' as per the original screenplay and novel.

True. And It's probably for really simple reasons like "because it looks cool," "because red goes with white better than most other colors" and "because white is the best contrast color to use in space" (like the background of the pics in the OP).

You're missing the real question, which is "how does it compare with a Viper, an X-wing and a Starfury in a dogfight?"

Isn't there an Osprey Duel we can consult? They seem to have done everything else.
