Having gotten all the foam cut and satisfied with the fit of things on the table I glued everything down and then sanded the hills with some 60 Grit to kill the sharp edges and give everything a more natural flow. A follow-on layer of wallboard compound was then added to kill some gaps and then some Durham's Water Putty to give it all a hard shell. link

So true, I absolutely hate the stuff, but my local big-box Home Supply store was out of 1/2" blue board. I must learn to keep a supply in hand!
