"Having gamed the full range of potential attacks on Australia, my key conclusion is: apparently no-one cares if a 3rd party supported by another 3rd party occupies Australia. I will, of course, assume that the Australians care, and New Zealand cares (as it cannot survive long term without Australian support).

Australia is seen as of limited interest to most of the world. I will give an example, in 1967 their Prime Minister Harold Holt disappeared without a trace. No-one outside Australia apparently even noticed. It has not improved since. A quick look at the BBC news pages shows the Australian coverage is usually at a fairly trivial level…"

I suspect the USA cares, assertions above notwithstanding.

People need to keep an eye on those overly nice New Zealanders though, since they're planning to lull others into complacency with their friendliness, until they can take over the world.

Holt drowned whilst swimming in the ocean. Is this article implying some sort of crack-brained conspiracy theory?

"fairly trivial level"….possibly because OZ is moderately well governed, fairly prosperous and mostly law-abiding? News thrives on disasters & Australia doesn't have that many.

"key conclusion"…..I'd suggest the author is keyless or even clueless.

Sorry to sound so negative but you read such articles & it's clear the author couldn't find OZ on a map.

Not to say: stop them coming, Armand. They provide some stimulus.

I'm late to the party here, but I will throw out that Australia exports more of use to the rest of the world than the UK. The only thing I can remember buying from the UK in the last few years is minis, and that wont keep an economy afloat. On the other hand, Australia has thriving export businesses of both minerals and food -- both items of use.
