Hi everyone, recently I've been bitten by the 17th century bug and for the last month I have been devouring books on the ECW and TYW. Since I've been fascinated by Jamestown and Plymouth since a small child it's really surprising it took me this long to get interested in the battles and conflicts of the era. Anyway, other than Ospreys it's lean pickings and I recently purchased several of their 17th century Campaign books yet still want to know more. I also bought Peter Wilson's Thirty Years War book and it got me really wanting a book on Breitenfeld 1631, which is a battle I've always wanted to know about. I've searched all over the Internet for a book on the battle but the only results are a short book in Italian and several books in German written in the 1890s. While doing my research I found a topic on this from March 2018 on this forum in which a user named Daniel S from Sweden said he was writing an English book on the battle, but due to health issues the book was delayed. If Daniel is still on here, I would be very appreciative if he could give me an update if the book is still on or going to be released soon. Just know Daniel I will run to pre-order the book and will happily pay pretty much anything less than $100. USD

Breitenfeld usually takes second place to Lutzen – but if you're interested in battles you could try all three volumes of Guthrie's Battles of the Thirty Years War; it is pretty expensive though.

For the ECW a good starting point is Stuart Reid's "All the King's Armies -- A Military History of the English Civil War.".

@Billynm , I never bought the Guthrie books as DanielS always said how inaccurate they were .

You can download (legally) a PDF copy of André Schürger's 2015 PhD thesis The Archaeology of the Battle of Lützen: an Examination of 17th Century Military Material Culture from the University of Glasgow's website. In addition to an account of the archaeology of the battlefield, Chapter 3.3 has an excellent section on tactical deployment while Chapters 7 and 8 cover the battle in considerable detail.
