…. dam project. "Abiy Ahmed says his country could mobilise 'millions of people' to fight but negotiations are a better solution Ethiopia's Nobel Peace Prize-winning prime minister Abiy Ahmed said on Tuesday that his country is capable of mobilising millions to fight Egypt over a disputed dam project, but that talks are the best means of resolving the conflict. The 43-year-old – Africa's youngest leader – delivered his remarks in his first parliamentary question-and-answer session since winning the Nobel Prize on 11 October for his peacemaking efforts with neighbouring Eritrea…." So, a guy wanting to go to war wins the Nobel Peace Prize? Makes perfect sense (sarcasm intended). |

Actually the Egyptians threatened the Ethiopians militarily, Abiy is stating to his own countrymen that they would not back down if the Egyptians took military action – the fight would be air attacks on the Dam site, no common border needed. To be sure the Ethiopians have not been particularly flexible in the division of water usage. The Sudanese would probably support the Egyptians, though they also have a dam on the Blue Nile. |

An air war ought to last maybe 2 days. The Ethiopian air force is around 100 out of date planes. |

Well I don't know anything about the Ethiopian Air Force but I would guess this would be more like a single or couple airstrikes, so more important force may be what they put out for Air Defense at the dams (I think they have had stuff there for a long time now). The Ethiopians are pretty hard core in the ground forces. The Egyptians always seemed pretty clever – well until they took a fling with Morsi for a while, but hey it's their country…. I really doubt any of this would happen. |
