Hi, During the armistace, I/Colberg transferred to the Royal Guard, taking with it the regiments'leibfahne. Did the reconstituted first battalion, made up of various reserve formations receive a standard, or did the regiment campaign with just one standard until new standards were issued after Waterloo? |

I am thinking 1st Kolberg wouldn't I have taken their original flag as going to the guard they would have received that new issued flag |

Due to a Royal order of 19 June 1813, the 1st battalion of the Kolbergsches Infanterie-Regiment took its colour (the Leibfahne) with it when it became the 2nd battalion of the 2. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß. This colour was still in use in the battalion in 1888 (staff only, the cloth having gone). On 22 July 1813, the commander of Kolberg was ordered by general Tauentzien to send one of the flags in stock there to the Kolbergsches Infanterie-Regiment. On 27 July, an officer parted from there with the flag. In the meantime, on 20 July 1813, the second battalion had given its flag to the new first battalion. In August, the second battalion received the flag which hd arrived from Kolberg. The flag from Kolberg was a one of the "Kolberg" pattern, issued to the regiment in 1808. By 1811, every Prussian infantry regiment had four flags, two per Musketier battalion. On 10 May 1811, the king ordered that each battalion should take only one of them in the field, the supernumerary ones were to be sent to the next fortress, and later they were no longer regarded as property of the regiment.

Thankyou Oliver, so did both battalions carry the Regiments retirierfahne (white field, black cross, the reverse of the illustration ) |

Yes, both battalions white corners, black cross. But until 1811, per regiment, you had 1 Leib-Fahne (white cross, black corners) and 3 Ordinär-Fahnen (white corners, black cross). Within each battalion, until 1811, the colour worn in the front rank was called Avancier-Fahne, the one carried behind in the rear rank was called Retirier-Fahne. Thus, in the 2nd battalion from 1808 to 1811, you had two identical flags, both Ordinär-Fahnen, which as Avancier-Fahne and Retirier-Fahne differed only in the position assigned to them in the ranks. |
