Some more cracking episodes from this series. The recent ones include an account of the massacre at Monte Sole, worst civilian massacre in Western Europe. The life and death of Rommel, with one of the the best summaries of his abilities and failings I have heard. Today's was the first part of an interview with General Stuart Watson, who was in 13/18th Hussars from D-day to the end. This episode covers his training up to D-day. Includes early days on the Covenanter and DD training with Valentines. They only got Shermans 6 weeks prior to D-day. The DD Shermans were A4's and he is not complimentary about the Chrysler multi bank. "They burst into flames if you looked at them!" Is his comment. Rest of the regiment had diesels presumably A2's which he liked. Very reliable and easy to maintain is the comment. Apparently the A4's were gone within days of D-day to be replaced with A2's. Apparently they couldn't use the A2 for DD tanks, something about the weight distribution. |

I'll have to listen to a few more. I started and quite enjoyed it but took a break. At times there seems to be a bit of repetition but that seems to be the case for a lot of podcasts. Planning them out doesn't seem to happen very often. |
