Is it a good place to get some Painting orders? Any thoughts?

Personally, I would think you might do better at Adepticon. I would think GenCon would be extremely cost-prohibitive as a vendor.

I would try Adepticon first

Hi, Gencon is an incredible show and worth doing once.

But as a business choice you might make more bang per buck spent on fees at Adepticon as mentioned by others.

Gencon certainly has more foot tall but the dealer hall is absolutely mental and you have a smaller target group as Gencon has more board gamers than table top miniatures.

However if you rejig your business model those gamers do like painted board game figures. Google Gloomhaven painted figures to see a different market for your team…

So Gencon might be worth one trip but I would guess more orders at Adepticon…

Just my best guess with my business head on…

Yes, I would like to try Gencon once even if it is bit expensive. Reason is that we are getting lot of Board game figures for painting. What is the nearest International airport to Gencon? I will be flying from Colombo via Dubai?.

holien08 Nov 2019 2:27 a.m. PST

Hi I fly in from the UK to Chicago and then either a bus or a local connecting flight depends on luggage.

The bus is cheaper and a direct route.

O'Hare international airport can suffer delays so don't leave it too fine for a connection. I tend to have a day to acclimatise before heading from Chicago to Indy.

GenCon is truly a one off experience and a must for any gamer to see the scale of the hobby.

BTW the big board game companies might be interested in some painted figures to demo their games, so another possible avenue of business for you.

Holien:

Be sure to stop in Chicago on the way down to Indy and have an Italian beef or a pan pizza.

Cheers, Tumbleweed

Hi Tumbleweed,

I have stayed in Chicago a couple of times and very impressed. Nice city as long as you stay away from certain areas, like any city…
