I particularly enjoyed painting the Arab vessels. They are lovely little models and with a bit of work (about 1 hour per ship) they come up very nicely. |

They really look fantastic, and you're achieving quite the output! |

Thanks – up to about 70 bases now including wrecks etc and just going out to the den to finish off an English 3rd rate for the next game.. more to follow. |

Soon you'll have enough to span a scale model of the Channel. Keep up the good work. - Ix |

Inspirational work – especially to me, someone who is just starting on their first Tumbling Dice models. Captivating blog you have there jocknroll. |

Thank you very much LpwC. Good luck with the Tumbling Dice models – I love them. A nice Batrep on the English fighting the Barbary Corsairs coming up on the boards/blog very soon. |

What is your technique for those flags? |
jocknroll | 21 Oct 2019 1:27 a.m. PST |
Thanks Mr Byron. The flags are hand painted in acrylics on aluminium kitchen foil. The foil piece is cut first and glued to a thin plastic brush bristle. I then paint freehand onto that piece. Pattern painted first and the folded and highlighted up to three times. Attached to models with a small amount of super(crazy) glue. Any glue marks are painted over afterward. My view is that paper flags are too thick and tend to look like billboards at mastheads, bow and stern. |

Gorgeous ships as always! |

You're making hand-painted 1/2400 scale flags on hand-cut foil…? Now I'm even more impressed. My eyes go all googly just thinking about that. I can't even imagine that kind of work below about 1/1200 scale anymore. Do you paint individual expressions on the deck officer figures too? - Ix |

If you click on these shots you can see how the flags are constructed pretty well

Your flags even look good at higher resolution than a human eye can see. That's pretty impressive. I have to admit, you are making it very hard to keep concentrating on painting aircraft. MUST. NOT. GET. DISTRACTED….! I have tons of tiny vessels for fleet actions in at least 5 eras (ancient galleys, Renaissance galleys, Renaissance sail, ADW, and C.18th sail), and it's hard not to fall in love with them again after looking at yours. - Ix |
