"This document, dated 10 August 1815 marks the end of the Napoleonic adventure in the French West Indies. The forces which had opposed the British (who were aided by 3 French ships sent from Martinique, the Actéon, the Messager and the Diligent) were defeated. In the course of July 1815, news of Napoleon's defeat had started to filter through and was confirmed when news from Europe, and in particular the Barbados Gazette, which outlined the events of June, arrived in Pointe-à-Pitre on 7 August 1815.
