Would you/do you mix these two game universes together on the tabletop?

Stryderg10 Oct 2019 10:11 p.m. PST

Not for me. The draw of 40K is all the special rules for the various armies and troop types. Star Trek doesn't really have that at the infantry level.

Yes.

I don't play the 40K rules, but I do like and play the 40K fluff. Star Trek has done this a couple of times. It's "what happens when the happy, hippy peace loving Federation runs into a species that shares basically none of its values?"

The Borg in TNG were like this. Species X-whatever was like this in Voyager. Kardassians for DS9. Even Klingons and Romulans for TOS.

One franchise takes an ideology of optimism (best expressed by the John Lennon song "imagine") and ignores the potential downsides while the other franchise takes the ideologies of nationalism and religiosity and showcases all of the downsides. The latter, in my opinion, is more intellectually honest.

I've always wanted to see the Discovery run across an ork fleet. Or some World Eaters…

One is a sanitized, socialist Candyland, the other is a uber-theocratic, cyclopian bureaucracy stoked on a multi-millennial jihad against, well, everyone else.

One is comically exaggerated, "fun to visit but God, I don't wanna live there" science-fantasy, and it knows it. Can you guess which one?

Star Trek is Sci-fi … and 40K Sci-fantasy … But that always didn't stop me for Epic scale … evil grin

Sure. Alternate universes come together after a time storm.

Since I won't go near 40k dreck under any circumstances…

I would love to see a 70s style Doctor Who episode where he "vorp, vorp, vorps" into the 40K universe and encounters the Forces of the Imperium of Mankind. That just screams the need for Tom Baker and Peter Hinchcliffe! You know that it would not end well for ANY faction in the 40K universe!

Davros in charge of Mars, but is a double agent for the Necrons! Sarah Jane Smith is captured by the Dark Eldar! Leela joins the Sisters of Battle. Adric is revealed to be a Psyker and becomes an Inquisitor. Turlough joins the Imperial Assassins. The Master is revealed to be the Emperor of Mankind!

Trek and 40k are (almost) exactly the same. The only difference is the direction taken by humanity, one is peace loving, the other are warmongers. Marines are what could have been if the eugenics war ended differently:

Federation, we come in peace- Imperium, we kill you all.

Klingons- orks

Vulcans- Eldar

Borg-Chaos/Tyranids

Basically both have the same fantasy and SciFi Fi ties.

Federation, we come in peace

… as long as we believe we can totally dominate you and you pose no threat.b We respect your morality … as long as it is a subset of what we consider to be acceptable.

Another derelict spaceship commandeered by Chaos … huh?

Not sure about that entirely, however at least they let the aliens live, not just kill them (mostly, a few Eldar may yet survive) like in 40k.

Is it really crossover? 23rd-24th century was the Dark Age of Technology, before "Warp Space" became infested with chaos.

Sounds about right to me …
