BF's new plastic Panther Asuf A

I have seen a Zimmermit pattern like that before…

Correct. The PzKpfw V Panthers' zimmerit were in a geometric square grid pattern whereas the PzKpfw VI Tigers' were in columned parallel horizontal lines.

Definitely zim.

They didn't have ERA back then.

Good to see it included on the Panthers, since without it, they just look wrong to me.

I think the OP was questioning the "look" of BF's representation of Zimmerit rather than suggesting that it might actually be explosive reactive armour…

Yep when compared to how it looked on the resin hulls/turrets , it seems way out of scale ?

It probably is out of scale, as there is a limit in how small you can make details in injection-molded plastic.

You can make smaller details with RTV molds for resin or metal.

There are more than 20 squares across the front glacis of the Panther in the b&w picture, but only about 10 or so on the 15mm miniature. So yeah, they're about twice as large as they should be.

Even so, it doesn't look too bad painted so not a deal breaker for me. In fact, I just ordered 10 (2 platoon boxes of 5 each).

So I wonder what BF did to that one , as someone posted these on their FB group ?

As you can see the zimmerit sticks out a lot more .

Someone has said , "Maybe some Mr. Surfacer 500 in the grooves could mute it a bit"

The ones above look wet like they've been sprayed with gloss or semi-gloss coat, which only accentuates the details. They're also too clean despite the foliage added.

The one in the BF pic has a much duller sheen. I don't think it 's a pre-production model that's any different. It comes down to how you weather and coat it. Nothing dull coat and a bit more weathering can't fix, really.
