Does anyone know a good source for pictures or information about the uniforms, equipment and weapons of Amin's Ugandan army in the 1970s?

Osprey did one of the Raid series on Entebbe. It has some photos and info on the army as it related to the hijacking and subsequent operation to release the hostages.

I did a quick Google search of images with the criteria of Uganda army uniform 1970s and got a good number of hits. Without knowledge of the period and place hard to say how good. There is also the modern African bushwars groups on FB, Yahoo groups and I think there is a stand alone site now.

Your question leads me to hope for a future release.

Probably a mix of old British stuff, and contemporary Israeli and Russian arms. Troops are typically seen with zero to light kit, and a variety of headgear consisting of soft caps, field caps, boonie hats, berets, and helmets.

I seem to recall seeing British DPM jackets and uniforms, back in the day, which were very popular across Africa.

Can't say on the weapons, but you frequently see FALs, and/or G3s in many armies, in addition to AKs and US weapons.

I bought this book on Amazon, there is a series on a lot of the African conflicts.

I can't reccomend the book that mghFond references. From what I recall seeing, it was a mix of khaki and OD fatigues and some camouflage mixed in. Small arms were probably SLR and other UK/US kit, caps and M1 helmets too. The Last King of Scotland also fielded some old Shermans and some OT-64 APCs for his "elite" units. Here are some pics I found:

There is also a Helion publication from their "Africa @War series " on the Uganda wars.

Sounds like you two have different opinions on the Uganda book. Reasons for good or bad so we can follow your thinking please.

RE: Ugandan T34/85s

Were they sourced from Libya? I've only seen this image of them:

It's a bit hard to tell but the colour of the tank seems to be similar to the crew uniform, which would make it light khakhi?

Libyan tanks would be painted in a sand yellow, yes?
