Is there any board that covers the early British campaigns in India during the 18th Century? How about a publisher of rules or scenarios for the period?

What you're wanting is Wellington In India A Wargamer's Guide by Charles Stuart and Stuart Asquith. That should give you what you're looking for. Not sure how much in the way of scenarios, but it has enough information to at least get you into creating your own from the information.

Besides the Stuart and Asquith book, I found the Osprey "Assaye – 1903" book useful.

Wargame Miniatures published a guide for the SYW period in India called "The Campaigns in India during the Seven Years War". It is by Mike Kirby and has much useful information and scenarios.

It it's any help the best history for the period I've found is Britain's Army in India by James P Lawford – it only covers up to the end of the SYW so is pretty focussed on eth era of Clive and shortly after.

You may wish to have a look for "Wellington's campaigns in India" by Major R.G. Burton of the 94th Russell's Infantry, first published in 1908. I have the 2008 edition published by Lancer Publishers, printed and bound in New Delhi. Fabulous book.

The only original set of rules dedicated to your period is "John Company: The Conquest of India, 1750-1860."

Rather than take my decidedly biased word for it, you may wish to follow this link to a review here at TMP of the First Edition. TMP link

You may find additional information and comment by running a search for "John Company" through the 19th Century Boards here at TMP.

Currently in their third edition, JC may be read about and even ordered (in Print and PDF Editions) via this link

Of special note is that the rules may be played with ANY scale miniatures as casualties are figured by the BASE, not the FIGURE. Ground scales, ranges, etc, are fixed, not needing any adjustment.

I can send you more information of the basing system simply by PM'ing me, if you like.

It took over 8 years to research these rules with the help of others from around the world--including India, of course--to complete what we wanted other gamers to be able to experience!

Cheers!
