I look at about 20 assorted topic list and it seems that new topics are not happening? Not to scratch at a scab but is something else happening to or at TMP?

um…we're missing the Tango effect… Be patient and do not press the shiny red button.

Andrew Walters25 Sep 2019 10:24 a.m. PST

Tango's okay, right?

It is hard to imagine TMP without him. Without him as balance the climate change argument becomes 50% of what's left.

Devil Dice25 Sep 2019 10:27 a.m. PST

Tango no longer posts on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.
He'll be back tomorrow!

raylev325 Sep 2019 10:29 a.m. PST

definitely far fewer posts, and not many discussions about wargames.

Tommy2025 Sep 2019 10:35 a.m. PST

…and fewer posters.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian25 Sep 2019 10:55 a.m. PST

The forum is less cluttered, but the content is improved.

HMS Exeter25 Sep 2019 10:56 a.m. PST

It has kinda felt like things were sort of winding down.

Dynaman878925 Sep 2019 11:15 a.m. PST

I blocked Tango ages ago (don't hate him, just didn't want to see a wall of topics I cared nothing about) and have not noticed any slowdown.

HMS Exeter25 Sep 2019 11:30 a.m. PST

Tango's offerings run the gamut. Much is of little interest, some is old news, some sites end up being pop up minefields. Some of his finds are just the teensiest bit incendiary, but occasionally he comes up with a real corker. It's like a bits box at a flea market at a con. You're not likely to find anything, but it's still worth a look anyway.

I did a quick and dirty traffic survey.

September 2019 to date, Convention Message Boards –
44 total Threads
September 2018 to same date, same Board
53 total Threads

Highest single September 2019 traffic day –
40 total posts in 5 Threads
Highest single September 2018 traffic day –
20 total posts in 5 threads

Kind of a wash really.

Tango is a 60/40 spilt between absolute rubbish/duplicate postings and total treasures we would never have found.
He and I disagree about which is 60 and which 40% of his postings.

But without his input……

Ragbones25 Sep 2019 12:47 p.m. PST

I prefer to see more original content from posters than just some vain shotgun approach taken by some who post topics that have nothing to do with miniatures gaming. And when I see a good or interesting post I try to thank the originator. It's polite and hopefully encourages him/her to post again.

Silurian25 Sep 2019 1:06 p.m. PST

I guess I would prefer to see fewer posts, but by gamers genuinely interested or excited by what they post.

I've come across some new things amongst Tangos posts, and usually thanked him for it, but confess to finding it a little odd that someone would want to swamp a forum with all sorts of random stuff.
Seems to me like the sort of thing you would do on your own blog.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP In the TMP Dawghouse25 Sep 2019 1:32 p.m. PST

Bill did purged a number of people last year, IIRC. Some were problem children and some were guys I liked. So IMO there was some wheat with the chafe.

He also seems to have a better handle on trolls etc., … Many of those go to "that other site whose name will not be mentioned". huh? To carry on like kiddies in High School and plan more attacks on the civilized world, adults, nuns, orphans, kittens, etc. evil grin

Col Durnford25 Sep 2019 2:48 p.m. PST

We did lose some very good people in that last purge.

I, for one, would gladly see the whole AGW discussion moved to the blue fez.

Personal logo Old Contemptible Supporting Member of TMP25 Sep 2019 3:57 p.m. PST

Tangos posts are pretty useless for me. What you have to dig through to get to a decent post is to much. Some of the links he provides are suspect and could be dangerous to your computer.

TMP has become a little dull and lacks the entertainment value it once had. But it is still a valuable resource for the hobby. But I am spending more of my time on the LA forum and my favorite blogs.

If I understand it right, all politics are to discussed on the Blue Fez and yet we get the firearms board which, to no surprise became instantly political. Then there is the bug…

Deucey Supporting Member of TMP25 Sep 2019 5:01 p.m. PST

Whatever happened to Winston?

I miss the curmudgeon too. His iconoclastic approach to things was always entertaining. He was knowledgeable about the AWI and other topics. Certainly, vS, "very good people".

Mad Guru25 Sep 2019 8:14 p.m. PST

@von Schwartz:

You're probably asking in jest, but as a longtime denizen of this site, I still feel compelled to answer…

Tango is a real person. At least he has presented himself convincingly as such for many years here on TMP.

Dr. Raùl Alberto de la Cruz, of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He served as a conscript in the Argentine Army during the Falkland Islands War. Years ago he wrote a somewhat extensive post about that experience, or maybe he wrote an extensive reply to someone else's post asking for primary source info on the campaign.

Back in the day he would occasionally post photos from his own games, but I haven't seen one of those for some time.

Many years ago on a thread for a historical refight game I was hosting, I invited him to join myself and some fellow gamers at a very good Argentinian steakhouse here in Los Angeles, and play in the game as an afterthought, but sadly he did not make it.

Over the years there have been periods of controversy related to his presence and his singularly vast contribution to this site. Some love him; some hate him; others can take him or leave him. Evidence for all of which is available above in this thread.

Speaking for myself, at this point, it would be odd for me not to see his threads popping up here on a regular basis. Though I have sympathy for those who take issue with his style of participation, I would miss him. But let's not start any ugly rumors -- I count 39 NEW posts by him today alone!

21eRegt25 Sep 2019 8:47 p.m. PST

My interest in TMP is waning. I used to check in a couple of times a day, now a couple of times a week. Just doesn't do it for me anymore.

deephorse26 Sep 2019 1:55 a.m. PST

With "new stuff" being limited to Hobby News, and then only allowed by paying advertisers, a lot of the value of this site has gone for me. Yes, I could look at Hobby News, but I want to use the site the way I want to use it, and not in a way I am compelled to do. 99% of Hobby News is of no interest to me anyway.

Wolfhag26 Sep 2019 4:32 a.m. PST

I'm seeing fewer posts that I'm interested in. We need UshCha to put up some posts about his game and explain to everyone else about how he gets it right (which he mostly does) and most other people get it wrong. That usually gets things going.

I'm mostly a lurker as my posts seem to bore people.

Mad Guru is correct with his Intel Briefing on Tango, AFAIK. My intel says the same basically. He is a real guy and we contact each other on the net in emails. Other than posts on TMP. I consider him an E-pal & e-Brother In Arms … thumbs up

Hi Tango ! evil grin

I'm mostly a lurker as my posts seem to bore people.
Not true Wolf ! I like your posts and comments. And I consider him an E-pal & e-Brother In Arms. We too have contact online off of TMP.

He and I also share being banned from the UM board. As we both are Vets. He USMC & I US ARMY ABN/Air Asslt, and we may be considered by some as not PC, Un-SJW, and possibly the some total of all that is evil in the Universe, etc., etc., … frown

wink

Well thus far things have gone the way I expected. The ad for the new Waffen SS figs just done has recieved no notice whatsever and the 20mm board is as dead as its possible to be. If Id posted the new figures on the message boards as well as in the advert they would have recieved a lot more notice and interest I suspect.
Im baffled particularly when the origin of this policy change was a boorish incoherent posting in the first place. Why encourage such people by actually taking any notice of them is even more baffling.

My impression is that it has slowed down a lot here on the content that interests me. Don't know what to make of it.

Until recently Tango (not a bot after all!) picked up the slack on a very lively forum and now even that has been in decline.

Lots of proud condemnation of Facebook here but I think that's where a lot of the good visual content has gone too.

I'm also not a vehicle guy – zero interest in planes and ships and only a little for tanks. Facebook provides a more steady stream of Horse & Musket and Adventure content than I can get here.

With any hobby site, I want to be inspired and to inspire others where I can. Facebook fits the bill there admirably. The communities I frequent there take painting and presentation seriously (I never encounter the "Three Foot Rule" types there).

Is Mad Guru a real person?
Is Legion 4 a real person?
Am I a real person?
Is anyone here a real person?

Wolfhag26 Sep 2019 8:08 a.m. PST

Thanks Legion.

I mainly troll through the WWII, Modern, Boardgame and Game Design forums as I'm not a model type person. My collection is pre-painted 1/144 scale and micro armor.

Hopefully, with enough opinions, feedback and communication we'll come up with a win-win for everyone. Bill seems like a reasonable guy and I understand where he's coming from.

Actually, the site is dependent on us. Please comment on areas that interest you. There are so many threads that are posted and get no comment (some deserving none – some on no interest to me).

Sorry to say, Leon, that wherever your advert was I didn't see it. My TMP bookmarks take me straight to the forums that interest me. I don't see Hobby News, nor the banner adverts at the top of each page. Any money that advertisers pay trying to capture my eyeballs is essentially wasted.

Fred Mills26 Sep 2019 3:41 p.m. PST

I enjoy TMP greatly, though not too many posts from the same person, regardless of who it is. Likewise, I don't enjoy the altogether-too-many silly surveys or the random, self-indulgent posts about who's buying what super-modern helicopter or which coastal patrol boat is in refit or mounting a new deck gun. Everything, I suppose, has a marginal wargaming value, but some of these are way too marginal, even for someone with some modest professional knowledge of/affinity for super-modern subjects. I can't tell if TMP has slowed down or sped up, but I seem to spend less time here and find fewer wargaming or modelling posts that attract my attention (which is a purely anecdotal). Still plenty, but not as many as I seem to remember.

Oh well, now Tango has been banned things are going to be quieter! On the other hand it will make it easier to keep track of good threads on the front page. There are still some quality posts to be found.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP In the TMP Dawghouse27 Sep 2019 2:05 p.m. PST

He has not been banned, he's temporarily locked out … He'll be back I'm fairly sure …

But as you posted on another thread –

Some members have had their viewing restricted if they are considered to be causing trouble on certain boards
So you may not want to take my word for it ! laugh

Devil Dice27 Sep 2019 2:31 p.m. PST

It gets complicated with dawghousing, temporary locks, permanent locks, board viewing locks etc!
How on Earth do you judge what merits what?
Is there list crimes and punishments?
Do crimes accumulate?
Can Tango post bail?

"The forum is less cluttered, but the content is improved."

Well, it may look like that from an editorial perspective, but from my humble user view the content has become much less interesting and relevant to me.

"It has kinda felt like things were sort of winding down."
"My interest in TMP is waning. I used to check in a couple of times a day, now a couple of times a week. Just doesn't do it for me anymore"."a lot of the value of this site has gone for me". "I'm seeing fewer posts that I'm interested in"."My impression is that it has slowed down a lot here on the content that interests me".

+1 to all of the above.
And if contributors like Tango are locked out, then I may as well not bother checking in at all.

coopman27 Sep 2019 4:38 p.m. PST

Tango has special privileges and immunities.

von Schwartz27 Sep 2019 5:59 p.m. PST

Wait…Tango is locked out?!?!

Aaarrg!!!

Shocked, I am Shocked!!! He didn't even post a link from a pirated book!

von Schwartz27 Sep 2019 6:01 p.m. PST

Wow, first Winston now Tango.

BTW what ever happened to Aethelflaeda? He was in the dawghouse last I saw then, POOF, he disappeared.

It's pretty simple, actually.

Break the forum rules, and you'll either get a warning or Dawghoused.

If we think we need to talk to you about your forum behavior, then we put a temporary lock on your account, and invite you to contact us for a chat.

'Permanent locks' are for people who, for whatever reason, we've asked to leave TMP. (Or people who lock their own accounts.)

Sometimes, a person will have a problem only with behavior on a specific board. For example, someone who can't stop trolling gamers about 40K would lose their access to the 40K board.

See the FAQ for a guide to forum rules.

By vote of the TMP community, the Dawghouse sentences are supposed to escalate, but we haven't implemented a formal tracking system for that yet.

Wolfhag27 Sep 2019 10:02 p.m. PST

Aethelflaeda was Framed is gone? I'm so offended! It's a conspiracy to silence Progressives.
