Thanks for your comments chaps, glad you like the latest additions. Steamingdave2 – The ongoing discoveries and discussions around Roman tunic colours alongside shield designs is a subject of much debate and one I fear we will never get a definitive answer about. So I take no particular stance on either, other than to say, based on various sources read during the planning of my units, white or undyed off white tunics seems like a potential candidate for the majority ordinary soldiers where cost of producing cheap clothing was likely to be a consideration, and thus I decided that where red was worn it was more likely to be among the better off and better paid ranking members of a cohort, as a mark of their office among the ranks. I like the look and have thus standardised it among my Roman units. Cheers JJ |
