My Daylight A22080 fluorescent magnifyer lamp suddenly began flickering, buzzing and smelling of melted plastic.

Long story short, when opened I found one of the four wires from the fluro mount had melted to the metal Top of a transistor. I pulled the wire free and could see bare metal wire, causing a short. I put some electrical tape on the wire and slightly bent the transistor away. Put it back together and threw the switch. Problem solved. It now works fine.

If you have one, you may want to have it looked at, as I suspect it happened over time. If you light flickers and buzzes, this is also something to check. You should get a qualified electrician to do any servicing on your lamp.
