…the World From the Jews. "During World War II, tens of thousands of foreign volunteers joined the Waffen-SS in what they believed was the fight to "save" western civilization from "Bolshevism" and the so-called "worldwide Jewish conspiracy." Initially, the vast majority of these men came from nations that the Nazis had overrun in the first years of the war. As the war expanded and the need for manpower grew, Heinrich Himmler opened the Waffen-SS to men from the rest of Europe, eventually as far away as the Caucasus region. There were even a small number of men from India in the ranks – they were promised that they would be able to fight against British control of their nation. A very small number of British from POW camps were accepted as well…" Main page link Amicalement Armand |

According to the article, 300 Swedes volunteered fir the Waffen-SS. In theory Regiment Nordland was composed of Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish volunteers so 300 Swedes may be a little light. |

300 Swedish volunteers is actually way too high, research has shown that some 180 volunteered for service of whom only 100 saw action at the front. The only way you could get even close to 300 'Swedes' is by including ethnic minority Swedes from Finland, Estonia and the Ukraine but those groups had been separate from Sweden proper for a long time by the 1940s, centuries in some cases. Danes and Norwegians served in far greater numbers, IIRC about 6000 of each. So on paper enough for a regiment though afaik Nordland was never fully Scandinavian in practice.

There was a lot of Anti-Semitism in Europe before and during WWII in many locations. And of course at the beginning of the war, some may have thought they wanted to be on the "winning" side. |

I don't doubt a lot of people living today would do the same! Take a peek out your window and you'll notice the familiar drums of intolerance, conspiracy and hate… |

Yep … Just turn on the news … Especially in certain location around the world. It's absolutely medieval. |
