Has any tried any of the Skirmish Campaigns scenarios with Chain of Command? |

There have been a number of TMPM threads on CoC campaigns. I did some searching and found these; there are others: link link |

I played the example campaign in the campaign rulebook and it went right down to the last game on the last table – finally got my opponents pesky Churchill with a Panzerfaust from behind to win the last game and take the campaign by the skin of my teeth. I really enjoyed the campaign system and you couldn't ask for a better write up of a CoC campaign than the posts by Tactical Painter – see today's TMP post "CoC Gembloux Gap 1940 Palm-off at Perbais (round two)". If that doesn't convince you to try a campaign nothing will. |

HindsTMP and BillyNM: Did you use a Scenario for one of the Skirmish Campaigns books? |
BillyNM | 06 Sep 2019 12:59 p.m. PST |
I played the example Normandy campaign scenario from the 'At the Sharp End' Campaign Rules Supplement. The scenario is an action fought by the 5th Wiltshires on the 22nd of July, just over two kilometres east of Hill 112 in the village of Maltot. I have the campaign booklets for Operation Martlet and the Scottish Corridor which I shall be playing as soon as I can line up an opponent. |

thanks, any tweaks or pretty much straight play? |

Well the OP is not asking about campaign scenarios in any of the TFL books, but about using CoC with the Skirmish Campaigns series of books. skirmishcampaigns.com I have wondered the same, as the Skirmish Campaign books have specific set up points and entry points with variable turns when reinforcements enter. How does that translate to CoC? Do you forget about the patrol phase and just lay out the troops and bring on reinforcements as per the scenario? |

Thanks Fred I thought that was clear |

My mistake! I've not tried those skirmish campaigns but I don't see why you can't use them as Fred suggests. |

I have several of the Skirmish Campaigns books which look really good. What I will say is that the maps in them are not always based on historical maps but seem to be more a case of trying to represent what someone things the geography would have looked like. That is in contrast to the Chain of Command campaigns where the maps are based on 1940s maps. I'm actually going to try to convert some Skirnish Campaigns to Pint Sized format. I think they'll work with some thought. |

I think the Skirmish Campaigns maps are more what a wargamer can put on the table rather than real terrain |

I have a lot of both. While it is possible, I think either dilutes or warps the other. I find the extremely variable size of force in SC, sometimes many tanks, and the looser campaign style of SC does not blend well with CoC. 'Arc of Fire' or 'Fire and Fury Battlefront WWII' work well. CoC with it's Sharp End campaign system and pint size campaigns, are so Rich-ly supported that putting round pegs in square holes makes this a less than satisfying endeavor. It's possible I guess, but so is supporting Chelsea… |

As to the accuracy of the maps. Some are rather complicated to represent on the table – Epsom and St Lo being case in point. Yards of bocage needed in St Lo. Complicated switchback and cliffs and sunken roads in one Epsom scenario. The SC are representational for some scenarios as some have been telescoped down from battalion to platoon level. |

One of the issues in a conversion of the Skirmish Campaign books with CoC will be how many leaders are given to each side. As often the squads and teams are small in Skirmish Campaigns, the number of leaders could skew things. |

Take a look at this thread in the CoC Forum: link I've used a number of the Skirmish Campaign Winter War scenarios for CoC with some minor adoaptations and they've worked quite well. Issues I made adjustment for were deployment in the scenario adjusted for using CoC JumpOff Points and adjustment for turn limits in the original scenarios which don't map well to CoC phases and turns since a game may have only 1 or a couple turns but many phases. I haven't tried using the campaigns from the Skirmish Campaigns as a campaign, just as scenarios. But I suspect it would be doable with at least some of the SK campaigns. You might well need to ignore ATSE and just use the campaign aspect of the SC campaign, however. Chris |
