Sweet…I hate bloody monkeys too.

HMS Exeter06 Sep 2019 5:57 a.m. PST

A Viet Nam vet I used to work with was an ordnance specialist. He went around maintaining weapons in his unit. He said the MG crews would glare at him while he had their weapon torn apart, and wouldn't stop until it was back together and test fired. Then he was their best buddy.

He was sent to a forward post that was so remote he had to rappel in from a helicopter. Part the way down he sees this ENORMOUS Boa draped in the high branch canopy. Freaked out he opens up with his M16. By the time he gets close enough to get a good look he could see it was already dead. Evidently, everybody new had the same reactions and he said the snake had been progressively shot to ribbons.

Yeeeeesh!

thumbs up ! We ran into monkeys in the Panamanian Jungles too. Some had monkey poop thrown at them. evil grin When working with SF we had survival training. And had monkey cooked ammo cans ! huh?

And thank you for your service KPinder

HMS Exeter06 Sep 2019 8:43 a.m. PST

Thanks, Legion. But honest is as honest does. I never served. I was at risk for the Nam, but just a scoatch too young. I turned 18 in 73.

I had wanted to go to Annapolis, but had neither the grades nor the connections. I went to a college fair at school and a CPO navy recruiter was there. I spoke to him about Annapolis. He says, "young man, you know this will be an intensively physical program…" as he eyeballs my pasty nerdy 90 pound weakling self. So I says…"so phys ed is required?" "Yes" he says. "You have a good evening," says I.

And that was that.

great diorama!

A monkey with a hand grenade sounds like a worst-case scenario

Served with a fellow that had been in the Marines when this happened. He said it was a quiet night when the next thing he knew there was an ape in his bunker beating the snot out of he and his bunker buddy.

Thanks, Major Mike!

I was just about to add a comment about where were the rock apes. Pic was first actual photo I had seen, but glimpses of the nasty, ill tempered creatures seen just south of the DMZ always looked like they were a lot bigger.
Tales abounded that they were sort of a Vietnamese bigfoot!

Sorry to get off topic, but that is one awesome diorama.
Now all he needs to do is one with our old friend the
tokay gecko. Better known as "…. you lizard"

Great paint job, figures and diorama.

KPinder … No problem, my mistake. I didn't graduate until '75. Then started Army ROTC that fall. So I missed Vietnam, but many of my Instructors and some of the NCOs & Senior Officers I served with were there. So I learned from some of the best and some very experienced soldiers.

I heard about the rock apes from some of them too. None of them mentioned if they were good eat'n though ! evil grin

Glad you like it too my friend!. (smile)
