"The US has been working with Colombia, Brazil and other regional partners to plan ways of crushing Venezuela's economy in an attempt to force Venezuelan President Maduro to step down and so as to install the US-led coup headed by Juan Guaido.

A recent article notes: "US troops have been deployed in Guyana, which is located east of Venezuela. With US allies Brazil bordering to the south and Colombia to the west, Maduro is under more pressure as a quarter of his citizens suffer in dire poverty. With Chinese and Russian influence increasing in Guyana, Trump hopes the deployment of US air force will strengthen the relationship between the two countries."…"

Someone beat us to it in "crushing the economy".

I think they did a pretty good job of wrecking their own economy.

US-lead coup?

Didn't Maduro lose the election?

(smile)

Maduro win the last election… a completely fraudulent one.

It would be nice to see Western nations focus on building their own economies and infrastructure instead of punishing other nations that don't want to live the way they do.

"It would be nice to see Western nations focus on building their own economies and infrastructure instead of punishing other nations that don't want to live the way they do".

They do for the most part, but when people start getting gunned down and killed in the streets (note – only the government troops and security personnel have them, since private ownership is banned, so it is truly an unfair fight – a cautionary tale for others), and failed states cause mass-migrations, then Western nations need to consider interceding on behalf of the innocent people, in addition to their own self-interests as well.

Venezuela is a prime example of that. Once a reasonably prosperous country, with one of, if not the largest oil deposits in the Western Hemisphere (depending upon which sources you choose to believe), it is now an economic basket-case, due to poor leadership, corruption, and socialist policies.

People there can't afford food, or toilet paper, so have been forced to leave their homeland in droves to try to survive.
