Not sure I quite follow the message. Is the idea that any success in the Bulge was short lived?

I know nothing of this, but will ask anyway. The White Scout Car as UK called it. I thought US Army dropped it well before 1944 but handed over many on Lease Lend to UK, USSR, Free French etc

The M3 was phased out of service by the US due to poor cross country performance and lack of overhead protection, not to mention thin armor. Despite being replaced by primarily the M8 armored car a few M3's were in service in Normandy. My understanding is they were used in secondary roles and not primary recce role. It is rather doubtful any were in service in the Ardennes but when it comes to US equipment I have found it is dangerous to say "never" :)

It was well documented that the Germans used some captured US equipment[and others] in North Africa, and Europe. Or attempted to i.e. Skozeny's "Kommandos" in the Ardennes.

Great Dio !

I`ve never seen an image of an M3 scout car in the Ardennes

I understand about the message that the American driver was traveling the area with excess of optimism … and that's how it ended …

I did see somewhere German Paras using an Italian Sahariana patrol truck used in North Africa. In the Ardennes during the Bulge. link

I`d like to see an actual link or photo of that – new to me??

The White Scout Car was 2WD, was it not?

The main reason for having them would be that the Rangers used them in "The Eagle Has Landed" – something I've always wanted to game in 54mm…

Richard Baber08 Sep 2019 2:29 a.m. PST

The armoured vehicle in "The Eagle has landed" was an M3 half-track with a twin .50cal turret

I'd like to find that photo again too Richard. Can't even remember where I saw it ? old fart

And yes that was an M3 Halftrack in that movie "TEHLd", not a White Scout Car IIRC.
