For years, the International Flat Rate boxes offered by the US Post Office have not been a bargain. I have always found it less expensive to ship in my own boxes.

However, I noticed today that Flat Rate shipping to Sri Lanka is a significant bargain!

A 6" x 6" x 6" box (216 cubic inches) weighing 5 pounds would cost $86 USD to ship.

The Medium Flat Rate box is $78 USD and more than twice the size. (There are two boxes available: the longer box holds 546 cubic inches, the shorter box holds 590 cubic inches, same rate for either.

Note that this is for shipping metal figures; the last time I shipped plastic figures (to Ukraine), using my own box was still the best bet.

Also, the Small Flat Rate box costs half the price – $36 USD to Sri Lanka, for example – but only holds 75 cubic inches, about 1/6 of the medium box.

That price to Sri Lanka sounds good. I was selling something and the cost to ship to Europe was 77 dollars. That killed the buyer's interest. So maybe it depends on the value of what is being sent?

Just a guess/thought.

Only worth it if you have a lot of heavy stuff to ship, otherwise you are screwed.

Bill, how many Figures can you fit into those flat rate boxes? 28 mm let's say .

Flat rate international shipping has been a good value for a number of years.

Using the flat rate medium box ($71.75) as an example, you are looking at about $3.60 USD per pound (20lb max for flat rate) to ship.

When was the last time you paid that to ship internationally?

Anything international >5 pounds usually makes sense to ship using a flat rate box.

Bobnar,

I routinely send figures internationally to be painted and use the small flat rate box. I can comfortably fit about 80-85 castings in the box (so a mounted figure would be two castings) and it usually weighs about 2-2.5 pounds. Since the medium has a volume that is at least four times as large, I am guessing 300-350 castings would be an easy fit.
