"Throughout human history, many different cultures have had cats as pets and treated them in different ways. The ancient Egyptians worshipped cats and even had a cat-headed goddess, Bast. Vikings, however, were much more pragmatic in their treatment of their feline companions.

Historians believe that the cats which became domesticated house pets today originated from a single subspecies of felines which lives the Middle Eastern desert. This breed of cat can still be found roaming wild there today. From that point, the cats spread outward into Asia, Africa, Europe and beyond. The spread of cats was largely due to their usefulness at keeping rodent populations under control…."

How were cats "super different"
Cats for pelts have been used everywhere in Europe and not only during the Viking period but well into the late medieval period and beyond.

Also cats as actual pets is a very very new thing and I doubt cats were beloved pets anywhere in Europe during the early medieval period

Pets or pelts? That L makes a huge difference!

It always struck me as strange in science class that we were assured you could generate static electricity by by rubbing it. Did other people keep cat pelts around the house? We certainly didn't.
I've got to agree, this one is lacking in substantiation.
Old Glory--any plans for producing a line of cats in Viking helmets, like the dog in the comic strip "Hagar the Horrible?"

We had a big beautiful Norwegian Forest Cat. Long outer fur with a sort of downy under fur. Very friendly and an excellent huntress. Looked like a black version of the cat in the picture. Very loyal to our family. She actually preferred to go outside in our Canadian winter, didn't seem to mind the cold.
