"War can be defined as an organized and often extended conflict between states or non-state entities. Some people would consider war as a serious and glorious struggle over some important issues. But there had been unconventional wars in the history of mankind that could be termed as huge wastes of time. 10 such senseless wars had been ranked…"

Silly wars, perhaps, but WWI ranks as the most senseless war, period.

Lots of senseless wars around, but WWI is certainly the most devastating of them.

WWI showed the world that there are bad reasons to go to war.

WW2 showed the world that there are good reasons to go to war.

Suggesting that WW1 was senseless is an insult to those who fought and died during the conflict.

Name any 10.

I do not see how saying WWI was senseless is an insult to the victims of the conflict or the people who fought in it. It is TOTALLY senseless that ALL those young men were sacrificed, and for what?

darthfozzywig05 Sep 2019 11:06 a.m. PST

Suggesting that WW1 was senseless is an insult to those who fought and died during the conflict.

Americans dying in France because a Serbian nationalist murdered some Austrian nobility in the Balkans is pretty much as senseless as it gets.

And that "reasoning" is the same sunk cost fallacy that keeps us in Afghanistan, etc.

"If we leave now, it's an insult to those who have died there!!!" is a very poor excuse for sending more people to die.

The truth about the reason people died is never an insult.

World War I poetry and many of the primary sources attest to the senseless waste of human life.

I served; would have fought like most if called upon. Though I think on a certain level all war is pretty much senseless. I'd guess many a fallen soldier would agree. Many would have preferred the insult than being killed on a battlefield.

I don't think the Turbot War is listed…
