Okay hideously oversimplified question I know, but I'm looking for a rough answer and the internet is being very unhelpful! I'm looking for an indication of what take off distances would have been for WWI or early inter-war fighter aircraft or a couple of specific examples? Thanks.

The Night Landing Ground at Fyfield, which was a satellite of North Weald in World War 1 had a flying area of 370 x 350 yards. They were flying BE2s and Bristol Fighters out of there, so not a lot of room was needed. North Weald had a flyong area of 900 x 850 yards, bounded by forest to the south and west.

From 1927 56 Squadron and 29 Squadron were flying Siskins and Bulldogs off an area not much larger.

Thanks, that's probably good enough for my purposes!
