In the hunt for a very simple game that did something more than just a line e'm up and have at e'm which is not to my taste, I came up with this. Its for 1/144 but a 1/72 version on 8 by 6 would not go amiss.
The scenario is basicly the 2 BMP's of a Motor rifle regiment scouting the road to clear it for the remainder. They are about 20 min ahead of the next group. The BMP's have to clear the path quickly. The delaying force is just a couple of Allied fire teams, one can have a tripod for there GPMG and have had time to dig in and have 1 alternate position and the tripod MG can have at least 1 FPF fire line, 2 if the attakers is a more able player.
The board. Run a road round the edge on 3 sides. One end is a start the other the finish. Down the centre put a terrain feature such as a stream and wood that prevents sight across the legs of the 'U' and is impassible to the BMP's, stopping short to allow the road to pass round the 'U' Bend.
Now add terrain to make 3 to 4 choke points which are not perfect but OK for the defenders.
The defenders now places the real element markers and say 10 dummies and commnce play. Victory conditions, the victor must be able to rightly claim the road is clear.
If using Maneouvre Group it's too small for standard rules however if you roll for local commands at +3 to leadership and leave all other rules as is it works. Just finished in 2 hrs with a slow player.
Its a great study in rece for the beginner as the rece needs one foot on the ground covering the other guy moveing. So fast, organised advance, particularly when tempted to unreasonable haste makes it a challenge.
