Arnhem City Blocks rolling off the production line! I'm making solid progress with my Arnhem model. My hope is to build a pretty accurate scale model battlefield of about 1 sq km around the bridge at Arnhem. You can see much more about this at my blog allhellletloose.co.uk I'm using mostly brigade model buildings, with scratch built walls, hedges and trees along with the occasional lean to. Here's a couple of tasters

Absolutely lovely, how do you manage to work on something that tiny? |

Which sets of buildings from Brigade Models are you using? I'm familiar with some of them but trying to pick out which ones you've used. Ta :) |

Hi Anton, the buildings are bigger than 6mm figures so are pretty straightforward. I use a 0.3mm fineliner permanent marker to do the windows. The walls/ fences are 2mm high 0.5mm wide plasticard strips – a good pair of tweezers is a must! Thanks 79th PA! Hi BB. I have used buildings from more or less every set Brigade do, including medieval, Mediterranean and harbour! There are also some of the new German range in there too. The English shops range is very useful as it has buildings with more than two stories. The English detached houses are large and so find themselves scattered about. It's mostly English and Normandy village with industrial and terraces scattered about. Let me know if you have a specific building in mind and I'll find out where it's from. cheers! CTM |

Little works of beauty. Please show us the completed town and bridge as it develops. |

Thanks Charles, I think I can pick out a few. Just wish my painting was as good as yours :) |

Very nice! Looking forward to seeing how they look when placed "in action". |

Thanks for all the kind words and support. My hope at the moment is to crack on as best I can and get as much done as possible and repost on the 17th September for the 75th anniversary. The whole board won't be finished but the main bits will be. I promise to post back on these boards. CtM |

Charles, awesome work, thanks for posting! Since I saw "A Bridge Too Far" as a boy, I've seen Arnhem as one of the most interesting and compelling battles in history, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing pics of those city blocks of yours "in action" as well! |

These look great. I'm just considering getting into 6mm for WWII and I'm interested to know how ‘playable' the terrain is, how does it work with your basing and placement of units in such a dense urban terrain? |

Hi Tactical Painter, I base my 6mm figures on 32mm by 25mm (roughly) bases. They stand on top of the buildings quite easily. There are a number of blog posts and after action reports on my blog allhellletloose.co.uk with multiple pictures showing troops in the buildings, the latest a battle of the Bulge game with US troops defending a number of villages. |
