Which ones jolt you, capture your interest, or let you know you're going to enjoy the movie? A few to think about: "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" (3 men trying to ambush Tuco in the saloon); "Once Upon A Time In the West" (Jack Elam, Woody Strode, plus 1, waiting for, and meeting, Charles Bronson), and my personal favorite: "The Wild Bunch", riding into town, up to "If they move, kill them!" Probably some other good ones I can't think of at the moment. Have fun. Tom |

Yeah the wild bunch is good, must have been shocking in 69, sitting in the theater and with in 5 minutes a level of violence not seen before in mainstream movies. |

For a Few Dollars More – Single rider, single shot, dead rider, horse trots off. You're waiting for the vultures to start circling. |

The Wild Bunch Before any dialogue is spoken, riding into town, they pass a group of kids who have a couple scorpions in a glass jar. They dump them out of the jar onto an ant hill. The camera zooms in closely and shows the battle between the scorpions and the red ants; then the kids douse it all with gas and light it on fire. Great foreshadowing for the final scene in the movie. |

I don't even remember it, but for some reason I remember the start of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid getting really ready for a good movie. |

Tombstone wasn't too awful bad in the opening. |

Probably the introduction of John Wayne's character, Jacob McCandles, in Big Jake, after the unnecessarily violent opening sequence (trying to keep pace with the increasing violence in movies of the period). "Every mother's son of ya." YouTube link |

Yeah the wild bunch is good, must have been shocking in 69, sitting in the theater and with in 5 minutes a level of violence not seen before in mainstream movies. In fact, a number of people ran from the the theater and some of them vomited in the street when they attended the opening of The Wild Bunch. This wouldn't happen today, of course, but as Sykes says at the end "It ain't like it used to be, but it'll do." LT |

Blazing Saddles, now that was hilarious. I imagine the humorless people who run your mandatory corporate sensitivity training would not appreciate it; but that's because they are a bunch of Kansas City …;-) |

Once Upon a Time in the West is the best open sequence of ANY movie, let alone a Western! So whats the best finale sequence? Good the Bad and Ugly for a western is hard to beat. My all-time favorite for ANY movie is still "ROBOCOP"! Kim |

Final for a western is Open Range. Unforgiven is another one. War movie Das Boat. You had to feel for the crew. Most powerful: Downfall Imagine walking through the the Red menace to an unknown future. Don't look in their eyes… |

I like the musical opening of high noon and the war wagon. The wild Bunch beginning is a very long opening, someday I'll do a game of that. Part of my series of reel wars. |
