"It is not hard to think of times when German military weakness would have been lauded as good news across the rest of Europe, but perhaps not when the German minister accused of running her country's armed forces into the ground has just been named as the next president of the European Commission.

The most recent embarrassment for the Bundeswehr — the grounding of all 53 of its Tiger helicopters this month due to technical faults — is just the latest in a long series of humiliations to have sprung from Ursula von der Leyen's spell as defence minister. Angela has a lot to answer for too.

The US should insist on them immediately meeting the 2% requirement, and keep it ongoing, or pull the plug on support for them.

You don't get fire/home insurance if you don't pay your premiums, so this should be no different.

Frau Merkel has a leg up on a lot of people, since she's from the olde East Germany, and apparently speaks Russian.

French Tiger not far off. Better now, but spare parts, and not enough flying.
Pacifist, bureaucratic, plague, pretense and show.

35 years ago the Germans were already dispising anything military. It would be better not to pretend having an army if only to get a powerless unifirmed joke of state employees. Also look at pictures of the Berlin honour guard. It will also tell you more.
Afraid it looks everywhere in Europe , including UK, up to a point like 3rd century ending Roman empire.
So what? Something new might get out of it.

Funny how in Russia they wave that German threat. We all get our official fake news.

The US should pull it's bases out of Germany. Let's spend that money in countries that support their freedom.
