More than a year later, and things continue to get worse, with the Turks and Erdogan not backing down on the fielding of the Russian SAM system, as well as their support for Iran, and other radicals in the region:

Apparently, now, they're even discussing purchasing the Mig-57, since the F-35 "deal" has fallen through.

If they attack the Kurds in a significant way, that just might bring the USA in on the side of the Kurds, in order to protect them.
