The earlier book on the British Army is available in English and this surely will be.

The artist Charles Lyall was working nearly a century later and relied on Napoleonic and Victorian era artists. His pictures in the British book do have a certain charm and I think it is very enjoyable.

But, if it bothers you, pretty much every single painting has some error in uniform, eg haversack and waterbottle on the wrong shoulder for other ranks, no buff leather for buff faced regts, Guards distinctions incorrect. Half the fun is spotting them and the authors have tried to point out those they did notice.

No doubt. I will buy this second book when out in English

Hi deadhead,

you're right with the faults of Lyall and we indeed tried to note them. The translation of the 2nd volume is completed by our friend Rick Sanders and so, the editor will prepare the English version.

I'll announce it here right when it is available.

many thanks.

These pictures are a great find and Lyall is a novelty compared with the well knowns and so often reproduced Knotel et al.

I will certainly watch out for this.

Even more I see mention of many more volumes to cover other countries' contributions. Keep up the good work and thanks to Tango for pointing this out (Grin, Smirk, Beam or even smile)
