Thanks to you both – I'm pretty proud and hope to run the game at BARRAGE next month and at the Ft. Devens Game Day in October. |

Odd… The German list of vehicles makes no mention of the Ferdinand/Elefant – was it a fourth German vehicle? Also, despite a claim in one British book which I assume to be a mis-identification – I can find no record of any Ferdinand/Elefants in Normandy. The one mentioned in 'Caen: Anvil of Victory' by Alexander McKee was (I think) a Jagd Panther. There were only 12 known Jagd Panthers in Normandy. As far as I know the Ferdinand was restricted to the Eastern Front and a few in Italy. Barry |

As usual, nicely done Mark. Once you are happy with your rules you should publish a link to them here for the rest of us. |

Barry, thank you. I was using this link link link as a reference and based on your feedback and this old TMP page TMP link I believe that the first link was incorrect. I will be removing my Elefant for service in my Eastern Front box! I will be running this scenario at least two more times in the next few months so I'm glad I could get this corrected. At least the last time I ran the game no one had the Elefant on the board. Marc thanks – I will do a post on the rules changes at some point too. |

I cannot be categoric but I can trace no unit officially issued with the Ferdinand in Normandy. All sorts of vehicles turned up in Normandy including old Panzer IVs with the short 75mm, Panzer IIIs with the long 50mm or short 75 and a wide range of old French tanks. Most of these were with tank training units which were then turned into fighting units. French Char Bs later turned up in Holland in the hands of the Dutch SS. There is an outside possibility that an Elephant could have been with Panzer Lehr but the reference I found in 'Caen: Anvil of Victory' placed it in an area and at a time when the Jagd Panther was just arriving. Given that the Ferdinand was known from Italy but the Jagd Panther was brand new and had not been seen yet the chances of a mis-identification are quite high. Regards. Barry |

Barry I have emailed the webmaster at that site for further clarification. It is a French site. |

@MarkAMorin: Please do not worry Mark. The TMP link which you supplied in your reply seems to bury the issue. It would appear the Alexander McKee mention was a mis-identification of either a Jagd Panther or, more probably, the (then) new Jagd Panzer IV as its stepped profile might have resembled an Elefant. I was recently interested to note that two or three Elefants actually turned up in the Fall of Berlin, presumably dug out of a reserve park somewhere in the dying days of the war. Photos show at least one was knocked out. Wiki also confirms: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elefant B |
