Imagine that you are deciding the placement of figures on a command stand. One of the figures is the commander; another figure carries the banner or flag of the unit. In general, where does the standardbearer go? * behind the commander * to the right of the commander * to the left of the commander * behind the commander etc. |

Normally mine goes on the commander's left, but I have placed that figure on the right front of two-rank deep stand and the commander figure on the left front of the adjacent stand. Jim |

Whatever looks best depending on the figures themselves. Command stands are a gaming convention anyway, and do not reflect the actual disposition of commander, color bearer, musician, sergeant, etc. in an actual military unit. Then too, it depends on the historical period. I prefer to arrange the colors so they are as close to the center of the unit's front as possible. |

All of the above and Somewhere where the standard will not get knocked or broken. |

First consideration is that it not tip the stand over--especially pertinent to old cast metal flags. Then we get into how many standard bearers and whether or not I have a musician figure. And the arrangement suitable to a 15mm 3-casting cavalry stand is not necessarily the one I want for a 24-casting 6mm infantry stand. Why do so many poll questions assume that all miniature warfare is done using the same rules and basing? (And is that a good poll question?) |

Depends Usually to the right of the commanding officer, but for SYW with battalions with two standards I have them in front and the officer and drummer behind (Black Powder basing, 4 figs on 40 X 40 stand) |

ON 15 mm I have learned to place them in the more safe position. On 28 mm I would try to be more historical. But I really don't worry about position too much. |

One of mine for a 6mm DKoK unit …

Since the standard is usually a big (and top heavy) model, I generally arrange them in the center with any musicians and champions/commanders to either side. It is often a bit back from the other two figures accounting for sculpt (does the flag flare out? Hang limply?) and weight. I generally prefer them to be the main focus if the flag has a lot of work put into it, with other figures being secondary. Where a king/general/hero is the visual focus, a less prominent standard is usually present. Lately, I have been skirmish basing my 15mm figs and just using magnetized/hole cut stands for unit bases, so placement is flexible. |

agree with jamemurp center all the way |

Commander in the center with his unit colors to his left. I do it that way because that's how we do it in the US Army, my color bearer was to my left and one step behind. |
