Great set of photos. I like the one of the ARV trying to get the tank back on to the transporter. Looks like a German M-48 with white light search light above the barrel. Probable Territorial unit by the length of the hair of one of the onlookers, although I was wondering if they might have been Dutch. |

Why couldn't the US Army put rubber tracks on its Bradleys in 2019 for a parade if it could do it for an exercise in the 1980s?? M60? Marines or Army?

Army I think from the rest of the photos. Looks like they were taken early 80s, around 84? Army still had M-60A3s then and other photos show M-1s with 105s. |

Why couldn't the US Army put rubber tracks on its Bradleys in 2019 for a parade if it could do it for an exercise in the 1980s?? $$$ as always, I'd think … Saying that, generally tanks, APCs, IFVs, etc. have metal tracks with rubber track pads. And that still will do damage to some roads. As it is not only the tracks but the weight of the vehicle and quality of the road. E.g. Back in '84-'85 one of our M88 ARVs turned a secondary road in the ROK into rubble. [Which the US Gov't had to pay for. I did the report and turned it into JAG !]
M60? Marines or Army? Yes those are US Army Tankers. Our M88 crews still had M3 Grease Guns in '84-'85 …
M-1s with 105s. Known as the M1IP. The Tank Bn in our Mech Heavy Bde in '86-'90 at Ft Benning, GA. Still had a one Co. of M1IPs and 3 Cos of M60A1s. |
