All, I am looking at doing some small forces to use with Fistful of Lead medieval. I feel like the 13th century offers more scope for random small fights than the late Hundred Years War or Wars of the Roses. What are your opinions? |

Do whichever one has the figures you like best. It's all speculation anyway. |

For skirmish there is not much to choose between them. WOTR has heavier armour but heavier weapons to counter it. There is more documentation for the later period, especially about livery colours, if you really want historical accuracy. And there are the lovely Perry plastics. In spite of that, I'd be intrigued by the 13th Century (is that the beginning – King John – the Baron's Wars or King Edward?) , and when it comes down to it, it is a question of which period grabs you. Me? I'd go a little earlier and do the Anarchy of King Stephen's reign. |

Not all speculation surely, Saltflats? |

I went with (mostly early, but largely inspecifically era'd) HYW for my small-scale skirmish. I figured you could justify the actions as part of a chevauchee. I have long wanted a medieval period to "mess around with", and running across a handful of miscellaneous Old Glory and Essex minis, I thought it was just the tonic. I've got about a dozen painted so far; it's been a "work on it occasionally because I'm tired of painting other stuff" kind of project. I'll be using a house-modded variant of the FoL rules. |

Beast, that is exactly what I plan I plan to do. A couple groups of retainers and a bunch of peasants. I like the look of the 13th century, but HYW would work as well. |

Do mid 14th century, the amazing claymore figures are animated great and perfect for skirmish. There was plenty of skirmishing and "small battles" in this period. |

Gunfreak, I agree the Claymore figures are gorgeous, but I need at least a few mounted figures, which Claymore has not done. |

Gunfreak, never mind, I found the mounted. Somehow I missed them before. |

Thr First Battle of St Albans ends with men breaking through timber framed buildings and fighting in the street. That decisive phase of the battle is best resolved as a 'skirmish' as each man's fate is key to the outcome. Phil |

I have fond memories of Cry Havoc as the first real game I was interested in gaming, so many thanks Standard Games. So 13 Century and early 100 years war would be a draw and one day I should get round to a 28mm 3D version with metals and all. |
